Abstract

This study examines the strategic impact of facilities management (FM) practices on workplace well-being and employee productivity in the banking sector of Ghana; it examines the enhancement of operational output and the mitigation of occupational stress through the management of the physical environment. Underpinned by the Job Demands-Resources Theory and the Person-Environment Fit Theory, the study adopted positivist paradigm with a quantitative cross-section research design. Using stratified random sampling technique, a sample of 152 employees was drawn from a population of 375 across19 branches of a commercial bank in Kumasi, Ghana. Data was gathered through the use of questionnaires, and analyzed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The findings of the study established strong positive relationships among the various variables: FM practices significantly influence workplace well-being (path coefficient= 0.792, T= 14.302, p < 0.001), well-being significantly enhances productivity (Path coefficient= 0.360, and T= 4.331 at p < 0.001), and FM practices significantly influence employee productivity (Path coefficient= 0.559, and T= 6.603 at p < 0.001). The study concludes that proactive facilities management and appropriate infrastructure or workplace environment improves the psychological and physical well-being of employees enabling them to be more focused and motivated on their task leading to efficient execution of the task. Hence, it is recommended for banks to commit to promulgation and implementation of proactive FM policies beyond basic maintenance to ensure efficient FM practices.
