Advertising and Sponsorship Policy
1. Purpose and Scope
The African Journal for Empirical Research (AJERNET), published by AJER Publishing, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, editorial independence, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication.
AJERNET operates a strict no-advertising and no-commercial-sponsorship policy. The journal does not accept paid advertisements, commercial promotional materials, sponsored editorial content, or paid promotional placements in its print or electronic publications, on its website, or through its official publishing platforms.
This policy safeguards the independence of scholarly publishing and ensures that editorial decisions are guided exclusively by academic merit, methodological quality, research integrity, and relevance to the journal's scholarly objectives.
The policy applies to the journal's website, published articles, journal issues, supplementary materials, editorial communications, and other official publication channels under its control.
2. Editorial Independence
AJERNET maintains complete editorial independence from commercial organisations, advertisers, sponsors, donors, and other external interests.
All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo editorial screening and, where appropriate, independent peer review in accordance with the journal's established editorial policies.
Editorial decisions are based on scholarly originality, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, relevance, and contribution to knowledge.
No commercial entity, sponsor, donor, or external organisation may influence manuscript selection, reviewer appointments, peer review recommendations, editorial decisions, publication schedules, corrections, retractions, or other editorial processes.
The Chief Editor and Editorial Board are responsible for safeguarding editorial independence and ensuring that commercial or financial considerations do not compromise the integrity of published research.
3. Prohibition of Advertising
AJERNET does not accept or display paid advertisements in any of its publications or official digital platforms.
Prohibited advertising includes:
-
Commercial banners, display advertisements, and promotional graphics.
-
Pop-up advertisements and other intrusive digital advertising.
-
Paid links, sponsored listings, and commercial referral placements.
-
Promotional inserts in printed or electronic journal issues.
-
Product or service advertisements embedded within articles.
-
Paid advertisements promoting institutions, organisations, conferences, training programmes, or commercial services.
-
Advertising arrangements involving commissions, referral fees, or other commercial incentives.
-
Any other paid promotional material intended to influence readers or generate commercial advantage.
The journal does not sell advertising space or permit third parties to purchase visibility within its scholarly publications.
4. Prohibition of Commercial Sponsorship
AJERNET does not accept commercial sponsorship for individual articles, journal issues, editorial sections, peer review activities, or publication decisions.
No organisation or individual may obtain preferential editorial treatment, accelerated acceptance, favourable peer review outcomes, or influence over published content through sponsorship or financial contributions.
The journal does not permit sponsored articles, sponsored issues, sponsored editorial sections, or commercial arrangements that compromise editorial independence.
This prohibition does not prevent authors from conducting or submitting research supported by legitimate research grants, institutional funding, or other disclosed research funding arrangements.
Such funding must be transparently declared and must not interfere with the independence, integrity, or presentation of the research.
5. Prohibition of Advertorials and Promotional Content
AJERNET does not publish advertorials, paid promotional articles, product endorsements, or other materials primarily intended to market commercial products or services.
Manuscripts that resemble commercial advertising or promotional communications are not considered suitable for publication unless they constitute legitimate scholarly research and satisfy the journal's academic and ethical requirements.
The journal may publish independent research examining commercial products, technologies, institutions, or services where the work demonstrates scholarly merit, methodological rigour, appropriate disclosure, and editorial independence.
Publication of such research does not constitute endorsement of the products, organisations, or services discussed.
6. Research Funding and Conflicts of Interest
AJERNET recognises that legitimate research may receive financial or material support from universities, research institutions, government agencies, foundations, development organisations, or private-sector entities.
Such support is distinct from commercial sponsorship of the journal.
Authors must disclose relevant research funding, financial relationships, institutional interests, and other potential conflicts of interest in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
Funding organisations must not improperly influence research findings, data interpretation, conclusions, or publication decisions.
Where a financial or institutional relationship creates a potential conflict of interest, the journal may require additional disclosure or undertake further editorial assessment.
7. Journal Fees and Financial Transparency
Article processing charges and other legitimate publishing fees, where applicable, are not considered advertising or sponsorship.
Such fees relate to the journal's publishing operations and do not purchase favourable editorial decisions or guarantee manuscript acceptance.
AJERNET maintains a clear separation between financial administration and editorial decision-making.
Payment of publication charges does not exempt authors from peer review, editorial assessment, originality requirements, or publication ethics standards.
8. Institutional Announcements and Scholarly Information
AJERNET may publish official journal announcements, calls for papers, editorial notices, publication updates, author guidelines, and other information directly related to its scholarly publishing activities.
Such communications are not treated as commercial advertising when they are issued for legitimate editorial, administrative, or academic purposes and do not involve paid promotional placement.
The journal may also provide appropriate acknowledgements of research funding, institutional affiliations, and scholarly contributions where relevant.
These acknowledgements do not constitute commercial endorsement or sponsorship of the journal.
9. Monitoring, Compliance, and Enforcement
The Chief Editor, Editorial Board, and AJER Publishing are responsible for implementing this policy.
The journal does not enter into advertising agreements or commercial sponsorship arrangements that conflict with this policy.
Any unauthorised advertising, promotional content, or commercial placement appearing on platforms under the journal's control will be reviewed and removed where appropriate.
Suspected attempts to influence editorial decisions through financial incentives, sponsorship offers, or other improper arrangements will be investigated in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and complaints procedures.
10. Policy Review and Contact
AJERNET periodically reviews this policy to ensure continued alignment with recognised scholarly publishing principles, editorial independence, and institutional ethical standards.
Questions or concerns regarding advertising, commercial sponsorship, promotional content, or potential conflicts of interest may be directed to the AJERNET editorial office through the journal's official communication channels.
AJERNET remains committed to maintaining a scholarly publishing environment free from paid advertising, commercial sponsorship, and improper financial influence.
